Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min was isolated for much of the first half but didn't miss a single chance.

Son started and scored a goal and provided an assist in a 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the 14th round of the 2023/24 Premier League at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, on Thursday (Sept. 4).

Spurs, who had fallen into a three-game winless slump prior to the match, losing all three games against Chelsea (1-4), Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-2), and Aston Villa (1-2), snapped their losing streak with a crucial draw against City.

Son Heung-min, who started up front in Tottenham's 4-2-3-1 system, opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the first half.

After clearing a City corner, Tottenham immediately went on the counterattack. Dejan Kulusevski spotted Son Heung-min surging forward from the center line and played a penetrating pass forward. With the ball in hand, Heung-min sprinted toward the penalty box at high speed.

Once inside the box, Heung-min wasted no time in unleashing a right-footed shot that found the side of City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes and rattled the net to give Spurs the lead. It was Son's ninth goal of the season.

But the celebration was short-lived, as Tottenham equalized just three minutes after Son's goal. The equalizer was an own goal.

In the eighth minute of the first half, Alvarez, who took the kick from a City free kick, sent a right-footed cross into the box. The cross sailed just over the head of a leaping Holland and hit the thigh of Son Heung-min, who was behind him, and went straight into the Tottenham goal.

Then, in the 31st minute, Phil Foden pulled a goal back for Spurs, and the anxiety of a fourth straight defeat loomed large. No club in Premier League history has ever come from behind to lose four games in a row, so all eyes were on Tottenham to become the first to do so in disgrace.

Spurs came out firing in the second half to avoid defeat. In the 24th minute, Giovani Rosselso scored the equalizer with a stunning left-footed strike. The pass to Rosselso came from Son Heung-min, who had one goal and one assist on the day.

City regained the lead in the 36th minute through Jack Grealish, but Tottenham equalized once again in the 45th minute with Kuluczewski's unstoppable header, and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. They snapped a two-game losing streak.

The draw leaves City with 30 points (W9 D3 L2) and third place in the league. Tottenham improved to 27 points (8W3D3L) and moved back into fifth place, ahead of Newcastle United (26 points). Tottenham's "passing network" revealed by soccer stats outlet Mark Stats after the game has become a hot topic among fans.

It showed how many and precise passes each of the starting 11 made during the match, with arrows indicating to whom. Spurs substituted Bryan Hill at the start of the second half, so Tottenham's passing map only showed a total of 49 minutes of passing, including first-half stoppage time.

Compared to City's passing map, we can see that Tottenham played in their own half for the entirety of the first half. With the exception of frontline striker Son Heung-min, the rest of the Spurs defense was focused on stopping the City attack.

In particular, if the ball went to Brian Hill (#11), who started the game, it didn't go to Son. Son vented his frustration and anger at Hill during the game when Hill dribbled when he should have been passing, disrupting the offense. Hill was forced to dribble and was repeatedly blocked by veteran City defender Kyle Walker. He was subbed off at the end of the first half. 온라인카지노

Without the ball in front of him, Son Heung-min stood alone in the City half. His isolation continued in the second half, as he played the full 90 minutes and had only one shot on target on the day. Instead, it was a day of determination, as he converted his only shot on goal from his isolation.

Some Tottenham fans were disappointed to see the likes of James Maddison and Manor Solomon in Brien Hill's place, as they thought Son would have gotten more chances.

Both Maddison and Solomon are currently sidelined with injuries. Israeli winger Solomon underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in October and was expected to return in February 2024, while Spurs playmaker Maddison suffered an ankle injury in November and has been ruled out until 2023.

With a lack of options in the second line, Spurs turned to 2001-born Spanish winger Hill, but the youngster, who has yet to break out of the youth ranks, struggled against the world's top club and was substituted at the start of the second half.
